The painting series is called Pareidolia, a term relating to faces and creatures one sees in natural phenomena such as clouds, rock formations and other amorphous patterns.
I have experienced Pareidolia as long as I can remember. As a child, I used to stare at patterns on the swirly stucco walls in my home and see faces and creatures. I continue to see lifelike images in natural objects, particularly trees.
Instead of painting a representation of the actual tree, which I have done in the past, I am outlining the creatures I see and creating new paintings featuring them. The critters are painted in a cartoon-like fashion using vibrant acrylic and florescent colors and patterns bringing together my love of cartoons and abstract imagery.
